If there is a common thread to Diane Graham, founder and designer of Graham Kandiah, it is her love of the sunny side of life.
From a childhood lived on East Coast shores from North Carolina to Connecticut, to an adult life filled with exotic travel, Graham, has been drawn to the esthetics of time passed at the water’s edge. Her preference is always tropical breezes, palm trees and bare feet over anything else.
An early career as an award-winning advertising executive took Graham around the world. “When anyone asked me what I wanted for a gift, I always said a plane ticket!” she admits.
Creating a vision for clients including Revlon, British Airways and the African Wildlife Foundation enabled Graham to cultivate and indulge two other major pursuits – a love of drawing and a fascination with textiles. She frequently found herself sketching locales of her travels and collecting bundles of fabrics from all over the world.
It wasn’t until the birth of her daughter Ava, that she found a way to unite her passions. Graham Kandiah debuted in the Spring of 1999 with a small collection of resort items created for the perfect getaway - sarongs, tunics, pants and cover ups - all in gently vibrant, colorful patterns inspired by the classic designs of Northern India and filled with the spirit of seaside pastimes.
Immediately well received, the collection’s signature prints in sophisticated color palettes have since become the hallmark of Graham Kandiah. Today the collection is sold in over 300 fine specialty shops from coast to coast and resort locales from Barbados to Mykonos.
The Graham Kandiah collection has appeared in major fashion and lifestyle magazines and newspapers including Allure, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, InStyle, Lucky, Oprah, Self, Shape, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, Town & Country and Vogue, The New York Times and Women’s Wear Daily, and on the Today Show and Good Morning America.
So shop, indulge your own yearning for the island life...we thank you for discovering and wearing Graham Kandiah and hope that wherever your travels take you, you have a good time!
